I read this in the March issue of Men's Health mag - Double Denim: Not now, not ever, not in your imagination". And I'm asking, why I can't wear it together? What's wrong with it? Why is it a style crime? Coz in the March issue of GQ Essentials, it says,
So, who's right then? Well, to answer the question - I took it to the test. I pulled out the denim shirt that I just bought from River Island, and try it on on different washes of jeans. Lightwash, dark wash, light blue, dark indigo, black. And voila. I got the answer. Yes, never ever in million years do a double denim if they're in the same wash or color. Why? Denim on denim in the same color or wash should never go together. Coz unlike a suit where you can look suave, doing a double denim is absolute hideous that you can ever do in your entire life. You look like a bloody moron. Not even a cowboy do that. It doesn't go together.
However, I made another discovery. Pair it with darker shade of jeans - it works totally fine. Coz this will create a contrast between the two. As what Kenneth Cole use to say - mix dressy with casual or rugged with refined. Meaning, if the top is very faded, then the bottom should be a non-faded. In my case here; the top is very distressed while my jeans is an unwashed one. But if I wore it with the blue stonewashed jeans, uh uh.. it'll be a yikes!!
Btw, the only real double D that always work: is on women. (If you know what I mean, ahaks!) :)
