Oh my. I think the designers has wrecked open my wardrobe and took inspiration for their Spring/Summer collection. Ahaks! From Armani who did the Malay ensemble lookalike last SS09, to Versace for the salwar kameez tunic that I wrote in previous post, and now Dries Van Noten also getting inspired from the stuff in my closet?
When I look at one of his SS10 catwalk piece, I'm quite surprise that the model wears the sarong pants. The one which has similar pattern like the sarong typically worn by the locals back there in South Asia/South East Asia region which kinda look like a skirt or an overlength kilt (no, it's not crossdressing okay). The sarong is called pelikat which is made of cotton, very sweat-absorbing and very light for hot weather. My big bros and broils (that's brother-in-law, btw :D) wear them, unlike mine who can't be seen in one. Never. And that's why my bro said I'm too westernized. Lol!
But that's not the main point. Actually why I'm quite surprise with that DVN SS10 pants is becoz I happen to wear it. The sarong pants that I bought from the state of Terengganu, on the North East of Malaysia when I went for a holiday almost 8 years ago. It's very cheap, by which if I can barely recall it's only cost about RM20 (about £4!). I have a couple of those like the blue one in the pix below which is not too typical 'pelikat' looking one, rather a much chic-er version. It's very baggy, very light and actually great if you wanna wear it when strolling by the beach. Me, I just wear it when I'm lounging around the house during that I-don't-give-a-damn-about-dressing-up moment. But now I think that my loungewear is becoming high fashion?!
Hmmm... now I think I could be a great 'muse'. Ahaks! =)
