Why London is so inspiring? Coz it's a place that's truly a melting pot of all sorts of art. A liberation of art. And culture. And style. And fashion. I think my sense of fashion is highly affected by the way Londoners live. Be it chic one day, and street the other... I love how people in London mix up their styles to suit their mood. And being comfy at the same time without a doubt.
Mentioning art... I really love street art. Graffitti.. murals on the walls done by the kids on the street. They're more expressive. They're much liberated. They're more original. They scream freedom. Sometimes they shouts anger. Sometimes they tell happiness. At times sadness. But in more colorful, words and paintings that comes out of the spray cans. Some might call it vandalism. I call it a liberation of spirit!
London has quite a number of street art, esp in the East side. One of the street artist that I love is Banksy. I know lots of you already heard that name before. My daily like when walking down Newman St., passing through the Post Office collection center off Oxford Street, always stumbled upon huge Banksy 'painting' on the wall there. I can't remember what's the scribble - I think it's One Nation Under CCTV if I'm not mistaken. It's unique in some kinda way. Too bad the council doesn't really appreciate the art side of it - and that's why they painted it off! Yet, there's a lot more Banksy arts in London. One is near Marble Arch tube station... some way towards the underground toilet, yet not many realised it's there. Or maybe the council people also paint it off as well. Too bad...
Anyway, this is one of the graffitti 'event' I went last time I'm in London. It's called - LOAD - held at the loading bay at Royal Albert Hall (hence the name, Load). This one-off event featured the faces that's once had performed at the coveted Hall... be it as a singer, or music band... or even iconic celebrities who's once ever graced the carpet in the building. From Muhammad Ali to Bob Marley, the Beatles to JayZee, even Pavarotti and Naomi - they have been immortalised on the murals of the car park.
One word: splendid.
There's even a digital spray can that you can use to test your grafitti skill!
The Royal College of Music... in front of Royal Albert Hall. And just beside my previous laboratory at Chem. Eng. Dept, Imperial College. I always listen to the music that the students played, while doing my experiment. It's so lovely.. I don't even need a radio!
