Tuning In Tunic...

As far as I can remember, when I was 11 it was the first time I got a taste of designing my own outfit. Well, not really design with all the sketches and stuff, but giving my input on what I want for my Eid costume. That time, I am so fed up with wearing the same design as other people. I want something different. So I told my tailor, I wanna get not a typical Malay Eid ensemble, but rather a twisted version of it. Since I hate the so-many-pockets on the front part, I want to get rid of them all. And the length of the top (shirt part) must be longer - but not too long as it'll me look like I'm wearing an Osama-lookalike robe; rather, a cross between the normal Malay Eid costume and the Indian salwar kameez. Yeah, actually I got the idea after seeing the Indian people around my area wearing those. But since I just wanna embrace my partial Indian blood in me (that's including what my sister claim, lol), so I want my ensemble to be ... yeah - half Malay, half Indian. So, I told the tailor exactly what I want - and he made it! Isn't it brilliant? As years gone by, the length getting a bit longer. And when I change town and get a new tailor, he says I'm the first person to ever did it in the town! And lots of people copy after that. Ahaks! So, I'm a trendsetter back then, huh?

But, yeah. I do like salwar kameez. Or some just simply call it tunic. The overlength version of a grandad shirt is a true looker. I know the Indians like in the Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham movie, the top is very much longer and look too festive and costumey. Me, I'd rather go for something slightly shorter, something more casual, something very high fashion, something that can be worn day in day out - which doesn't look awkward when I walk on the street and doesn't look too racial-biased.

Something like these Versace tunic shown in the Spring/Summer 2010 catwalk last year in Milan. Aren't they just something? They're very airy and light, and the colors are gorgeous. The length is just perfect and the fit looks awesome! The fact that it can be worn on its own or with a blazer thrown on it - they're simply fantastico. And I like when it got this slit on the side, giving a bit of sex appeal to it... :)

My word: I want those! It's time to tune into tunic!
