Plus? Minus? +J: The Judgement day

Thursday, 10.30 am. Meaning I'm already late for the opening of +J at Uniqlo flagship store. There I am, armed with my Fendi patent boots making a queue among other shoppers who anticipate for the Jil Sander-Uniqlo collection for autumn/winter. Myself, there's a mixed bag reaction coz I really dunno what to expect. The previous day when I 'feel' the clothes, it's not what i expected it to be.

While making a queue, the Uniqlo guy handed us the Unqilo mag which comes with the limited edition tote bag, special for the opening day. And perhaps the guy really don't see the faces of the people who are queueing. he handed me another one..which I think it's my luck to get two totes! Holla..

After almost 10 minutes, suddenly it's my turn to do the rampage and stampede among the fellow shoppers. My verdict? Mixed bag... that's all i can say. Once tauted to be Calvin Klein's long lost sister, Jil Sander's collection for Uniqlo really what it says about the brand. Simple and chic. And yes, very basic. Some are great, some are just 'no comment'.

The collection come in several pieces, but by the time I'm there some of the iconic +J pieces - the wool long coats, black and white shirts and grey blazers are almost gone. And the velvet tux jacket is nowhere to be seen.. My verdict?

  • The grey blazer. I manage to snap the last remaining piece to try. I think this one really cut to flatter as it skims and follows the contour of the body. The fabric is nice, though i's quite similar to what H&M and River Island used to do. The fact that it only comes in sizes like S, M, L and etc though, is not a brilliant idea compared to if you got like 36S, 38R, 40L like River Island has. But, they're great nonetheless. Price? £89.99.

  • The white shirt. There are two versions - the Oxford (with button-down collar) and this cutaway collar. This one is slimfitting. Love the simplicity, though not quite sure about the 'peeking' of the fabric (quite sheer, but you can always wear a white tee underneath). It's stretchy, so a plus there. Price? £24.99.

  • Colored shirt. The same as the white one in term of fabric, cut and price. And better coz it's not that 'peeking'. The color of this one. Nah... not really my cuppa.

  • The cashmere cardi. The fabric is marvellous - very soft cashmere. The fit also amazing. The only my 'cringe' factor is the fact that the color is almost fuchsia - so very camp. And the backside is actually the color of the contrast hem - dark grey. they come in a couple of color combo including grey-dark grey. Price? £99.99. Super yikes!

  • Skinny fit jeans. The one that I found yesterday, +J only do skinny fit jeans. So, if you have a thin legs like mine then you can wear it (though I don't really go for skinny jeans). The design wise? Nothing special - it's just like other Uniqlo jeans. Price? I think it's £29.99 (can't remember, sorry)

The other that I tried include the overcoat in wool. Though none in my size already, I love them, and I think they're the one that everybody should be buying if you're looking for simple design. The texture is great, fit is very flattering and the design is simplicity chic. And the down jacket in cotton denim-like, ooh.. that's something iconic too. I love the fabric.

So, my purchase? Stuff that are pleasing to my senses. The denim Oxford shirts in black and indigo. Very flattering cut and color. I can either dress down for casual or dress up for slightly formal. And denim shirt is hot for autumn/winter '09 and SS'10! Oh, I snapped some long-sleeved tee. I LOVE 'EM! They're very stretchy so the fit is uber awesome! Love the biased cut of the sleeves and it's hemless cuff. Very edgy. It's not the usual tee that you can find out there.

And oh, the collection may not be fully out in store. Some will be in around 12th Oct (as told by the salesgirl). So, expect more to come. If you buy online, be very patient coz their site is like... so damn slow.
