Matthew Williamson for H&M: The Menswear and My Verdict

It's 14th May! Alas, the time has arrived for Matthew Williamson menswear collection @ H&M be launched. The time that every stylonistas has been waiting for since the news out last autumn right after Commes des Garcons not yet finish off the rail. And boy, am I so lucky to be in the fashion capital of the world to get my hands on the collection.

I woke up quite early that day hoping that I could be the first in line at H&M flagship store in Regent St. Went there quite early (9.30 to be exact!), but damn, the store is already open! Meaning I'm already late. There's not even crowd queuing up outside - meaning everybody's already in! And double damn to me coz I saw this guy storming out from the store with loads of H&M Matthew Williamson's shopping bags. Ahhhhh!! Not happening...

So, gushed in not to want missed anything. And thank God I'm not. So... my verdict? Well, as in my prev blog I did mention that I went for certain items. The blue floral short sleeve shirt, the floral shorts, the stripe jumper and the prints swimming trunks. Voila! There're all there!

All right, lets see. The blue floral shirt. it seems people are not that into this piece coz there's loads of them. It looks good. Yet.. as usual when I tried them on it's not that outstanding. Yes, it looks good in pictures (esp when seeing Sean O wearing in H&M mag). The sleeve is a tad too open (meaning I need to work on my biceps more, LOL!). The fabric feels a bit cheap (coz the price's too). And the double pockets, hmmm... not my thing (still it's still can be taken off). But kudos for the floral prints. Love them. Still, I didn't buy it - too risque.

This print tee looks kinda funky. Love the effort by MW. Feels quite Msian batik as well. Love the fit on the neck, slightly scooped feel. Fabric is bit too rough though, making the sleeve felt a bit 'Buzzlightyear' - to infinity and beyond! Did I buy it? No.

And hey, there's the swimming trunk that I'm looking for. Voila. Love the prints and the spandex feel of it. Very Brazilian. Well I didn't tried them in the fitting room, but at home (yes I bought it). The fit is great, so as the fabric. And love the string with brass end. (There's always the little things that matter). Does the trunks do the job well? Yes!

Another trunks - much sexier. Again, kudos on the prints. Very psychedelic, very retro yeah..baby. And fit amazingly (yes, I snapped this one too!)

Then my eyes wander if I could find the striped jumper that I'm looking for. But damn, they said it only comes with medium size and above. While I was looking around, suddenly I struck onto the white shirt. What? Why didn't I see this before? Quickly I tried them on and voila! Amazing! The white shirt is not just your typical white shirt. It's egdy, given the prints on the inner hem and cuff. Very chic psyche! And it has the 'MW' scriptures at the bottom edge. Love it!

After I paid my purchase (yikes it's £100 for 4 piece of items!), I then head off to H&M Oxford St just around the corner - hoping to get lucky on some other items. And yes! The striped jumper that I'm looking for. In small! The fabric is amazing - cotton/wool mix. The color, the fabric, the feel - very summery. Since the price is right (it's highstreet price for designer label!), I snapped this one. Another great purchase.

Well, what other items on the rails? There are these psyche prints again - on scarves, suit jacket and its matching pants. The scarves is not mu cuppa tea. The fabric's too cheap. Very bathroom rug feel. Not good. The suit is also not my thing. The color (navy), the fabric is not what I like. Talking about one man's meat is another poison, eh?

And there's these lot - the peacock prints, which is what Matthew Williamson famous for. Good effort, but I'm not wearing those coz prints tee is not my thing also.

Plus there's this print jumper. I don't really knwo how to explain about this one. One part batik, one part Halloween. The fabric is not cool at all. Quite rough. And the floral shorts that I said is what I'm coming for, also doesn't live up to my expectation. Still, I really love the floral print.

The other jacket in the collection is the Bengal-stripe look one. I kinda like the overall look of it, yet it hangs too low down the crotch. So, not my thing. Yet, the fabric is cool and the fit is nice. Anything else in the collection? Yes. There're studded colored jeans and shorts in green, blue and pink, and studded leather biker jacket. Also some accessories like shades, towel, patent shoe and prints bag.

Overall? Quite OK if you like designer clothes at highstreet price. Ann if you like prints too, esp in this kind of weather. But I love all my purchase - given that I got the special edition shopping bag and hangers. What not to like!
