14 May is indeed the fashionistas' day. With Matthew Williamson for H&M collection in store, Mango did their 20% Off Everything, Carnaby St Shopping Night by Grazia and GQ Event @ Banana Republic, the day is really great for shopaholic like me too. TOPMAN also not gonna escape by offering latest collection in store. Yes the Anthony Price at Topman. It is much anticipated too since the last time his collection hit Topman, it was snapped that fast. But what about this time?
I get the chance to go and see them first hand in Topman flagship store in Oxford Street. Sadly to say my anticipation turned sour when I got the feel of them. Yes, they are quite something - the suits, the pants and the vest are all look nice. Yet, something just doesn't click to me.
The macs on the other hand is probably my most favorite items on the bunch. The black traditional mac is very symmetrical and to add a twist, it is given a snake print! Very mysterious and dark and interesting and amazing roll into one. I love it. But the price is way too off for me.
The other lots include these two suits. When I saw it the first time - suddenly it screams Dolce & Gabbana! Why? Coz it got the stripes on the lapels. Not just that, the matching pants also got stripes on the side of the legs. I love them. The cutting, the fabric and the colors - one in icy grey and the other in soft minty blue. But there's one problem - the shoulder is bit too boxy and when I put them on they felt quite tapered. Not good if you have a bit broad shoulders. Yet, these lots has the most sharp look that I always crave for. Price? yikes... £140 just for the jacket.
So, my verdict? 5/10. Overall collection is great. But some of the pieces should be made better with great quality fabrics (tafetta? err.. no, no!). Price wise I think TOPMAN should reduce it a bit given that they are @ highstreet store. Yeah I know it's a designer collection and it's in limited quantity. But if H&M can sold the jacket by Matthew Williamson for half of the price.. then why not Anthony Price? Hmm... things to ponder.
